80-20 Rules, Pareto Principle

Wikipedia's Pareto Principle,
"The Pareto principle (also known as the 80–20 rule, the law of the vital few, and the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes."
 Examples,
  • 80% of a company's profits come from 20% of its customers.
  • 80% of a company's complaints come from 20% of its customers.
  • 80% of a company's profits come from 20% of the time its staff spend.
  • 80% of a company's sales come from 20% of its products.
  • 80% of a company's sales are made by 20% of its sales staff.
  • 80% of process defects arise from 20% of the process issues.
  • 20% of your sales force produces 80% of your company revenues.
  • 80% of delays in schedule arise from 20% of the possible causes of the delays.
  • 80% of customer complaints arise from 20% of your products or services.
  • 80% of lands owned by 20% of population.
  • Richest 20% of the world's population controlling 82.7% of the world's income.
  • etc...
Very interesting!
We should focus more on the 20% of our activities that produce 80% of our happiness & fortunes =)
