Mobile Broadband Modem Pointing Using QPST, QXDM

These tools have been already known since long time ago.
Pointing is important to get best signal for our broadband/wifi modem, either with or without external antenna.

(Works only for modem with Qualcomm chipset, and the modem's diagnostic port must be opened.)

Howto:
(Note: some locked modem has diagnostic port closed, in that case try to open the port first.)
*In case external antenna is used, then the antenna is rotated. (Connect external antenna to modem by using pigtail, or just by induction method.)
*In case no external antenna, it's a must to use USB extension cable, so the modem can be moved and rotated. Choose 3, 5 or 10 meters USB extension cable.

-Find out USB port number of the modem's diagnostic port attached to the computer.
-Open QPST Configuration.
-Click "Add new port", then select appropriate diagnostic port.
-Click "Enable".

-Open QXDM Pro.
-Run Options | Communication, select the port.
-Choose Target port.

-In the View box, select the type (GSM, CDMA, UMTS, EVDO, WCDMA, LTE, GPS, etc..)
-Particularly we want to see Power, Pilot Sets, Air Link Summary. These windows may vary based on the type of modulation chosen.

-In QXDM, look at the Power, Rx Antenna.
-While do move and rotate modem (or external antenna) slowly, until we get strongest signal. Value of -60dBm is usually more than enough.
-Note: not only rotating the modem horizontally, but also moving it, and also vertically (tilt). In case in a closed room, usually the best to place the modem in the direction of open air, such as to window.

Example of Air Link Summary window,
Our aim to make Data Rate as high as possible. In this case, for an EVDO Rev A modem, we see 3072 (around 3Mbps).

Below is an example of Pilot Sets window.
Our aim is to make "only one" pilot PN in the Active Set list. That's the strongest pilot. The closer to 0, the best is the pilot energy.
Also make sure that we don't see too many pilots in the Candidate Set, that will make modem to switch between pilots often, which is bad.

Once we get the best direction for the modem (or antenna), fix it. That will ensure we get the best speed for the network/Internet connection.
